4-ブロモ-2,6-ジ-tert-ブチルフェノールに３当量のtert-ブチルリチウムを作用させることによって得られるジアニオン種である2,6-ジ-tert-ブチル-4-リチオフェノキシドは分子内静電反発により通常のアリールリチウム種より高い反応性を示す．これを利用して6,6,-ビス(ジメチルアミノ)フルベンから表題化合物を合成し，そのジアニオン種が四極性の分極構造を有していることを明らかにした．

近年，機能性分子の開発が広く求められているが，この観点からπ共役系オリゴマーおよびポリマーは大きな可能性を秘めている。そこで新規なπ共役オリゴマーを合成し，その性質を調べることは，基礎研究としてのみならず，新しい機能を有する高分子材料の開発という観点からも重要である。交差共役系のフルベン類をそのエキソメチレン部で結合したポリマーを考えてみると，このポリマーを電子酸化あるいは還元すればイオン化した側鎖を持つポリアセチレン誘導体への変換が期待され，その構造ならびに物性・機能には興味が持たれる。本研究ではフルベンとしてペンタフルベンを選び，さらに分子の安定化と合成の足掛かりを考慮してチオフェン環を挿入したオリゴマーならびに関連オリゴマー類を合成し，それらの基礎的な物性を調べた。
